Edit for headphones.* The Cascades – a name inspired by a nearby box of dishwashing detergent - went to Gold Star Studios in Los Angeles in 1962 to record this song John Gummoe wrote in his Navy days on watch during a thunderstorm. The musicians included the "Wrecking Crew" - Jim Owens on drums, Carol Kaye, on bass and Glen Campbell on guitar - arranged by Perry Botkin, Jr. Released in November 1962, it became a major hit in over 80 countries.
#1 hit in Ireland, #1 in Canada, #3 in Australia, #3 in the US, #5 in the UK, #7 in Norway, #14 in Belgium. In 1999 BMI listed the song as the ninth most performed song on radio/TV in the 20th century.
