edit for headphones. just some more bass on this one... but i warn you: too much at some places, i know! i know! april 23, 1969, almost two years after the beatles released their song, joe cocker had a world wide hit with this cover.

jimmy page played guitar, barrie james wilson (procol harum) played drums, and a gospel choir sang background. (it is said that merry clayton was among the choir.) tommy eyre (blind faith) and stevie winwood (taffic) played organ. joe’s performance of this song at woodstock in 1969 was his big brakethrough.

joe was born may 20, 1944. he attended sheffield central technical school in england and worked as a gas fitter for the east midlands gas board. his first group was the cavaliers in 1959. he was the drummer and harmonica player.
